The law has never played a more vital role in people’s everyday lives than it does right now. As our faculty, students, and alumni engage with such timely issues as immigration, fair housing, environmental protection, civil rights, and criminal justice reform, the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law seeks to continue its tradition of excellence with a renewed vision for educating and training the next generations of lawyers who will reshape society through the practice of the law.

We seek a new Dean to guide the College of Law during these exciting yet challenging times in legal education and the legal profession writ large.  Our new leader will bring to the College of Law an innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative approach to reinvigorate the spirit of a college steeped in tradition. We envision that our leader will understand the variety of roles that stakeholders play in a university and law school ecosystem. We seek candidates who are welcoming and warm, collaborative and inclusive, financially savvy and communicative, and able to be agile, nimble and forward-thinking.

The College of Law has an exemplary reputation for training lawyers, judges, and business persons in Utah and throughout the country. Law students learn from luminaries—from our faculty in the classroom, from the distinguished guests who visit campus for lectures and special events, and from educational experiences that advance the College of Law’s mission to serve its community and the nation through the lens of legal education and social justice.

Equally importantly, as the leader of S.J. Quinney College of Law, our new Dean will play an important role within the University of Utah community—a place home to Nobel-prize winning research, a rich culture of collaboration, and the exciting atmosphere of a flagship university on the rise.

Stories rooted in historical excellence and those yet to be discovered by future students are at the heart of our search for a new dean. Just as our students dream of changing the world, we aspire to provide a world-class legal education that creates limitless opportunity built upon a foundation of the law.

We are ready to start a new chapter at the S.J. Quinney College of Law. We invite you to be a part of helping us to discover what our new future holds.
